    Recently, the ‘Symposium on Cutting-Edge Issues in Intellectual Property Protection in Emerging Fields’, organised by the Intellectual Property Research Centre of China University of Political Science and Law, was successfully held at the Jingyi Hotel in Beijing. Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Intellectual Property Research Centre, the event brought together leading academics, legal practitioners and industry experts to focus on building China into a leading nation in intellectual property and the development of new-quality productive forces, discussing cutting-edge topics, deliberating on the rule of law and exploring avenues for innovation.

     

    Mr Zhao Zhanling, a special researcher at the Centre for Intellectual Property Research of China University of Political Science and Law and a partner at JAVY Law Firm, was invited to attend the symposium and deliver a keynote address.

    Professor Zhang Chu, Director of the Intellectual Property Research Centre at China University of Political Science and Law, and Professor Qu Sanqiang from the School of Law at Beijing Institute of Technology delivered opening addresses. They spoke highly of the Centre’s academic achievements and contributions to the industry over the past two decades, noting that in emerging fields such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence, biological breeding and platform governance, intellectual property protection has become a key pillar for driving innovation and safeguarding industrial security.

     

    During the second session, themed “The Internet and Artificial Intelligence”, Mr Zhao Zhanling expressed deep concern regarding the complex challenges currently facing intellectual property protection in emerging fields. He emphasised that, against the backdrop of the rapid development of the digital economy and artificial intelligence, the rule of law must proactively keep pace and take active measures. He recommended continuing to strengthen cutting-edge research to foster a more flexible and efficient regulatory framework, thereby safeguarding the healthy development of new-quality productive forces through the power of the rule of law.

     

    This conference brought together the intellectual property legal community to tackle cutting-edge challenges from theoretical, institutional and practical perspectives. It provided important guidance for intellectual property protection in emerging fields and for empowering the development of new-quality productive forces, whilst looking forward to further deepening exchanges with all sectors to jointly promote industry progress.
