As the Mid-autumn Day approaches, the issue of high-priced luxury moon cakes has once again caught the public eye. Recently, JAVY’s deputy director Cao Chufang Esq. commented on this matter when interviewed by the CCTV.
As Ms. Cao pointed out, the high-priced luxury moon cakes usually involves heavy packaging which may violate the law, the regulation GB 23350-2021 has set standards on food and cosmetics, which forbids more than three layers of package on moon cake products.
The law also prohibits package which costs more than 20% of the selling price. In the case of moon cakes with a price tag more than 100 yuan, the package cost should not exceed 15% of the selling price, the act of tying is also forbidden when selling moon cakes.
In order to discourage illegal luxury moon cake packaging in the future, Ms. Cao suggested that the vendor should provide more information about the product for the consumer to make informed choice, the authority should also help to establish an honest market that discourages illegal actions such as false advertising and fraud, and encourages fair price and environmentally friendly packaging.
