On August 21, 2023, the global legal magazine Asian Legal Business (ALB) released its "2023 ALB China Top 15 Growth Law Firms" list. JAVY Law Firm, recognized for its steady development and high-quality legal services, has been awarded for the third consecutive year. Deputy Director Cao Chunfang was interviewed by ALB, sharing insights into the firm’s innovations and growth strategies.
ALB Interview Highlights:
ALB: Can you highlight JAVY's growth strategies?
Cao Chunfang:
In 2020, JAVY developed its first five-year plan and transitioned to a special general partnership by the end of 2021. Despite the pandemic, JAVY advanced rapidly. This year, the number of registered lawyers is 1.6 times higher than last year, including experts in criminal, civil, commercial, financial, intellectual property, and administrative law. JAVY’s Beijing office was ranked 27th in the latest "Beijing Top 100 Law Firms" list.
In terms of infrastructure, JAVY expanded its Beijing office space in March, doubling its area. This expansion supports our strategic focus on professional and large-scale development. Additionally, JAVY has established branches in Shanghai, Nanjing, Chongqing, Fuzhou, and Dezhou, with more planned in Tianjin, Taiyuan, Wuhan, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou.
Over the past year, JAVY obtained qualifications for patent and trademark agency services, completed securities legal business filings, and joined the Beijing Bankruptcy Administrators Association, broadening our service range.
ALB: What drives JAVY’s consistent growth?
Cao Chunfang:
The primary driver is the forward-thinking policies and systems established in 2020. Transitioning to a special general partnership was a milestone, providing a robust framework for rapid growth. JAVY has implemented a clear governance structure with distinct roles and responsibilities.
We use both traditional and point-based distribution systems to measure partner contributions, ensuring competitive compensation. JAVY also formed several specialized committees to enhance management and encourage lawyer participation.
Our branding efforts are strategically planned, promoting our brand and mitigating risks with comprehensive prevention and reporting systems. Digitization enables efficient resource sharing across all offices.
ALB: Can you discuss JAVY’s talent strategy?
Cao Chunfang:
JAVY’s talent strategy includes the "Golden Seed Project" for new lawyers, the "Golden Cradle Project" to enhance professional skills, and the "Golden Heritage Project" to involve lawyers in partnership management. Our "Star Plan" supports lawyers under 40 with case sources and income assurance.
JAVY’s "zero-cost practice" policy allows young lawyers to choose shared or fixed offices without additional fees. We support personal branding through free live broadcasts, videos, and bid support.
We have no performance elimination policy, treating all lawyers equally regardless of their current business development status, believing in the potential of every practicing lawyer.
