The football star Lionel Messi’s visit to Beijing has boosted yet another “Messi mania” throughout China, which also has drawn lots of scammers and ticket-scalpers to capitalize on the trend. Recently, JAVY’s Zhao Zhanling Esq. was interviewed by China News Service to comment on the potential risks of buying tickets from scalpers.
As Mr. Zhao pointed out, buying a ticket for Messi’s football match requires the buyers to provide their phone number, verification number, and ID, even on second-hand platforms, there is a huge risk as to personal information security. If the scalpers acquires the buyers’ personal information, they may use the information illegally later on.
However, there is difference between selling one’s own ticket to others and buying tickets on behalf of others, the former is a violation of the Public Security Penalties Law, while the latter is a form of commission contract, which is legal, said Mr. Zhao.
