At a time when the methods of telecommunications and online fraud are becoming increasingly diverse and the harm they cause ever more severe, the elderly, as a vulnerable group in society, often become prime targets for fraudsters. To raise awareness among elderly residents in the community about how to guard against telecommunications and online fraud, to effectively protect their financial security, and to foster a safe and harmonious community environment, Mr Gao Feng, a lawyer from JAVY Law Firm, was recently invited to Tonghui Jiayuan East Community to deliver a legal awareness campaign on the theme of ‘Preventing Telecommunications and Online Fraud’.

Drawing on his profound legal expertise and extensive practical experience, Mr Gao Feng delivered an accessible, engaging and practical legal awareness lecture to the community residents. To help residents gain a more vivid understanding of the diversity and subtlety of telecommunications fraud, Mr Gao Feng shared several real-life cases covering various types of scams, including AI voice-cloning fraud, fake investment and financial management scams, and the illegal lending of bank cards; each case served as a stark warning.
During the section on preventive measures and advice, Lawyer Gao Feng provided residents with the simple and easy-to-remember “Three Don’ts and One More” principle: do not click on unknown links, do not trust unfamiliar callers, do not disclose personal information, and verify transfers and remittances thoroughly. He also introduced national anti-fraud tools such as the National Anti-Fraud Centre app, the 96110 early warning hotline, and the 12381 early warning text messages, to help the elderly enhance their self-protection capabilities.
This legal awareness campaign received an enthusiastic response and unanimous praise from all attendees. Participants unanimously expressed that, through Lawyer Gao’s presentation, they had gained a clearer and deeper understanding of telecommunications and internet fraud, as well as mastered practical prevention techniques, thereby building a solid legal defence for the elderly.
