On October 17th, JAVY LAW FIRM successfully held the activity of ‘In-depth Analysis of Criminal Business: Unlocking the Wisdom of Interviews and Meetings’, and invited Yali Liang, Senior Partner of Beijing Kyoto Law Firm/Director of Criminal Defence Research Centre, Vice President of the Institute of Criminal Defence of Northwestern University of Political Science and Law and President of the Beijing Branch, Vice President of the Institute of Criminal Defence of Southwestern University of Political Science and Law, as the guest speaker. Liang Yali, deputy director of the Institute of Criminal Defence of Northwestern University of Political Science and Law, and vice president of Southwestern University of Political Science and Law, was invited as the guest speaker.
Liang Yali firstly introduced the core concept and objectives of the interview in an in-depth manner, and emphasised that the core of the interview lies in building and consolidating trust between lawyers and clients, and that this relationship of trust is consistent throughout the entire process of legal services. She deeply analysed the strategies and skills in the process of interviewing clients, further discussed the key difficulties in the interview, and provided practical ideas for lawyers to solve complex and changing legal problems.
When talking about meeting with clients, Ms. Liang clearly and concisely elaborated the relevant theoretical basis and legal framework, pointing out that independent defence is not independent of the client's own will, but independent of other extra-judicial factors.
She listed in detail the preparatory matters before the meeting and introduced one by one the key skills in practice, covering ice-breaking communication, listening and understanding, emotional empathy, effective questioning, confirmation of information and provision of professional advice. Through the combination of examples and practical experience, a set of detailed and specific operational guidelines was provided to the lawyers. In addition, Mr Liang also highlighted the importance of making records of interviews for lawyers' risk prevention and control.
Finally, Liang concluded that good interview and meeting work is the premise and foundation of the whole defence work. Her wonderful explanation not only significantly enhanced the lawyers' understanding of the importance of interviews and meetings with clients, but also provided valuable guidance and profound insights for them in their future legal practice.
