Recently, Lawyer Wei Wei, partner of JAVY Law Firm and chairman of the Brand and Culture Construction Special Committee, had a dialogue with Lawyer Jian on the live broadcast program "Lawyer Youth Speaks" to explore the aesthetic of life for young legal professionals.
From fashion editor to law firm partner, trial and error early to find true love? A young lawyer who doesn't like socializing can still obtain a stable source of cases? The more 'you don't want' a commission opportunity, the better you perform? The key to entering the self media industry is' doing it first is better than anything else '?
Find the answers to these questions through a conversation with Lawyer Wei.
01. Before entering the legal industry
It's amazing that Lawyer Wei had a brief experience in the fashion industry before entering the legal profession.
"After the judicial examination, he wanted to try the industry he was interested in before graduation, try to make mistakes as soon as possible and determine what he really wanted to do." So, after experiencing a circle in fashion media companies and Internet companies, Xiao Wei returned to the legal industry resolutely. Although this internship experience lasted less than a year, it gave Xiao Wei a clearer understanding of his future career direction. I still think that law is more interesting, profound, and meaningful. At the same time, I personally believe that the career ceiling is relatively high, so I am more convinced that this is an industry worth continuing to cultivate
The legal industry is indeed very difficult and challenging. When it comes to this topic, Lawyer Wei also joked, "Isn't it like saying 'persuading people to learn law can be a thousand cuts'? Although this is a self deprecating joke, it may also reflect the difficult situation of some practitioners in the industry in the early days, but every profession has its own difficulties. Lawyer Wei believes that in the early stages of entering the workplace from campus, it is important to try as much as possible according to one's own heart. If you feel signals of "unsuitability" or "dislike" during the process of trying, your heart will give you the answer. This is a more useful factor to consider than the experience, lessons, and guidance of all those who have gone through it.
The internal competition in the legal industry is evident, which can be seen intuitively as low price competition in the market. As long as I don't cheat, no one can cheat me (laughs), "Lawyer Wei admitted that he actually didn't participate in this internal competition and still wanted to do things in his own way on his own business line. I cannot lower the standards of my work by lowering the fees. I am well aware of my personality, and once things are done, I will definitely give it my all. Otherwise, I may not sleep well, so I have to offer a reasonable price. Moreover, Lawyer Wei has always believed that 'if something is not something I have realized, I cannot get it in my hands. I will not cater to the market to compete, but will remain more determined in my own pace and constantly improve in my professional and technical aspects, so as not to' lower myself 'and become physically and mentally exhausted in the endless internal competition.'.
02. The way to attract customers online and offline for "i people"
How did Lawyer Wei break through the debuff of "youth" and "i people" and find a suitable way to obtain case sources, from a paid lawyer to an independent lawyer?
When I first became independent, there were definitely no sources of cases. In order to avoid anxiety, I would divide my daily time into two parts. In the morning, I would read and exercise, and in the afternoon, I would have a good meal. In the afternoon, I would go to the law firm to write, summarize past cases, and organize some professional articles and opinions. Opportunities are always reserved for those who are prepared. Soon after, the lawyer in the firm happened to have a potential client resource in the financial and business field. Upon learning that Lawyer Wei had previous research in financial securities, I began to collaborate and undertake this business.
At that time, I also really wanted to seize this opportunity, so I made a lot of preparation in the early research work. From the pre commission negotiation to the post commission agency work, the parties involved highly recognized our work, so they also commissioned several cases to me. In Lawyer Wei's view, cooperation between colleagues is actually a very important source of case sources. On the other hand, in the process of cooperation, one's professional ability is recognized, and it will also generate a reputation effect of old clients bringing new business, which is also very valuable for independent lawyers to acquire and expand clients.
Because I am an 'i-person', I actually don't like to distort myself and force myself to integrate into some circles or participate in some social activities. However, as an independent lawyer, I also consider how to increase weak links to enrich my horizons and experiences. At this time, self media begins to play a role. Lawyer Wei has always been interested in the topic of women's power awakening, so he has paid attention to relevant groups on self media and started to expand his social circle and vision through women's communities, doing things that are interesting and more meaningful. When I was a salaried lawyer, I was very busy and had little time to focus on things outside of work. I also rarely had contact with women outside the industry, but I was really curious about their current living conditions. Are they doing well? What difficulties are they facing? What is their status? If I had to open the door to go out, I would choose the one I am interested in and like.
Actually, it is highly recommended for 'i people' to engage in self media, because a social gathering may only allow a dozen or so people to get to know you at most. However, through self media, you can instantly make hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of people from all over the world get to know you at the same time. Isn't this a new type of 'social gathering'
03. "Strategically value it, strategically underestimate it
Unless you have a high level of professional competence and have published many highly specialized research results, don't hide at home. No one can find your home to collaborate with you. Business cooperation between peers or colleagues is actually very important. For young independent lawyers, it is at least necessary to ensure that you go to the law firm more, participate in the law firm's public activities more, throw olive branches more, and let the industry's' big shots' think of you when they need assistance.
But these skills are just icing on the cake. To truly return to the core, one must have strong professional skills. "For Lawyer Wei, professional improvement will give him a lot of confidence, allowing him to maintain calmness and composure in any situation. Only when his mentality is stable, will he give clients and colleagues a sense of trust worthy of trust. Before meeting with the parties involved, I even search for the most authoritative textbooks in this field based on their pain points, consult relevant laws and regulations, and analyze case studies. Before the meeting, I also create a mind map and PowerPoint presentation. The mind map serves to summarize the case overview, while the PowerPoint presentation may focus more on their personal needs and pain points
When meeting formally, don't express your desires too eagerly. Sometimes young lawyers who crave something too much can appear nervous and immature. Perhaps we can consider 'valuing it tactically and underestimating it strategically' and speak calmly to maximize our prepared content
But in fact, the workload only truly begins after receiving the case. Lawyer Wei believes that regardless of the size of the case, lawyers should report work progress and follow up on needs to clients in a timely manner. For some special cases, they also need to take on the responsibility of calming clients' emotions. Only in this way can they enhance the deep trust and cooperative relationship with clients in advance. Nowadays, many materials blindly emphasize the importance of "completing orders", which is not correct. Lawyers are professional services that need to solve problems, and "professionalism" is the core of the core. Treating lawyers as a business and disregarding their expertise to blindly pursue success is very irresponsible.
4. Self media: Doing it first is better than anything else
When it comes to Internet marketing, Lawyer Wei believes that this is actually just a conversion of publicity methods. "Before joining the Internet marketing or We Media, we suggest that you should first clarify what you want. Many so-called Internet experts say that the drainage point or the explosion point, in fact, they can not understand and accept it." All roads lead to Rome. Only by choosing a comfortable way that they really recognize, can we persist for a long time.
Secondly, marketing is not just about utilitarian things, but also about considering what positive values it can bring to society. My own self media account is not only for conversion, but also for the infiltration of many self opinions, hoping to present a good state and more positive value outside of marketing
Meanwhile, Lawyer Wei is also the chairman of the Brand and Cultural Construction Special Committee of Jiawei Law Firm. When it comes to brands, Lawyer Wei believes that although the specific connotations and details may vary for everyone, as something that has been attached to us for a long time and has deep soft value, brands will definitely enhance the first impression given by lawyers or law firms.
In the field of self media, Lawyer Wei's advice is straightforward: doing it first is better than anything else. I am also a very perfectionist person, and I really hope that things will go according to my expectations and plans, but often perfectionism can trap my hands and feet. Self media is not that difficult, you can do what you need first. Only by entering the game and starting first can you do better and clearer through trial and feedback.
