To bring lawyers closer, JAVY Law Firm launched the "JAVY Interviews" series to uncover the stories behind each lawyer. This issue features attorney Ding Yufang, known for her dedication, expertise, and continuous learning.
Career Path and Achievements:
Ding Yufang graduated from Renmin University of China in 2016 and began her legal career, progressing from an intern to a salaried lawyer, and eventually joining Beijing JAVY Law Firm as an independent lawyer in June last year. She has been recognized as an Outstanding Lawyer at JAVY and holds positions in the Beijing Jiangxi Enterprise Chamber of Commerce Legal Service Center and the Nanchang University Beijing Alumni Association Legal Group.
Stages of Her Career:
Ding initially faced a scarcity of cases, making survival her priority. She handled a wide variety of cases during this "jack-of-all-trades" stage, which helped her quickly generate income, expand her network, and understand the market. However, she realized the need to specialize to avoid career stagnation. Specialization requires balancing breadth and depth, focusing on related fields to complement the main practice area. For example, corporate lawyers might also learn about finance, labor disputes, and other areas to enhance internal governance and risk management for their clients.
Focus Areas and Challenges:
Ding mainly handles civil and commercial disputes, corporate law, and compliance. The complexity of corporate governance demands high professionalism and business acumen from lawyers, as each company's needs differ based on their unique business and shareholder structures. Lawyers must understand basic corporate management to address clients' real needs effectively.
Memorable Experiences:
Early in her career, Ding faced a situation where a client was dissatisfied with a contract modification. This taught her the importance of thorough communication to understand clients' true needs before proposing solutions.
Advice for Young Lawyers:
1. Solid Fundamentals: Lawyers need advanced skills to handle complex cases, showcasing superior decision-making and stress management.
2. Good Work Habits: Thoroughly checking documents, organizing tasks, and regular reviews can significantly improve performance and efficiency.
3. Business Thinking: Understanding client needs and pinpointing their pain points is crucial for creating satisfactory and compliant legal solutions.
4. Effective Communication: Good communication skills are essential for building trust and understanding in client relationships.
Expectations for JAVY:
Ding is optimistic about JAVY's growth, noting the firm's recent expansion and upgraded office space. She believes this symbolizes JAVY's commitment to becoming a larger and stronger legal service provider, aiming to establish itself as a world-class law firm.
